Field Construction Manager – Fertilizer & Agribusiness Facilities
Stueve Construction is seeking an experienced Field Construction Manager to oversee the construction of dry fertilizer, liquid fertilizer, chemical, and other agribusiness facilities throughout the United States.
Since 1958, Stueve Construction has specialized in designing and building facilities for the fertilizer and agricultural industries. With more than 1,500 fertilizer and agribusiness facilities completed, our team understands the specialized construction requirements, operational demands, safety considerations, and schedules associated with modern agricultural facilities.
Position Summary
The Field Construction Manager is responsible for the successful field execution of assigned projects, ensuring performance in safety, quality, schedule and financial outcomes.
This role serves as the company's senior field leader and works in close partnership with the Project Manager, engineering team and Superintendents to drive operational excellence on site.
The Field Construction Manager provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams while maintaining strong client communication and ensuring alignment with Stueve's standards and contractual commitments.
This is a project -based travel role requiring approximately 90-100% weekly travel throughout the continental United States. Projects typically require extended on-site presence
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Partner with Project Manager to ensure overall project success
- Coordinate closely with superintendent regarding daily labor operations and field productivity
- Monitor engineering progress and permitting status prior to and during construction
- Review and understand all contract documents, specifications, and drawings
- Manage field revisions and change documentation in coordination with engineering
- Develop and maintain short-interval (3-week look ahead) schedules and support master schedule tracking
- Lead subcontractor coordination and ensure performance aligns with scope and contract
- Manage rental equipment tracking and utilization
- Administer change order process with owners, subcontractors, and internal leadership
- Lead bi-weekly (or as required) project coordination calls
- Ensure proper documentation, daily logs, and progress photos are maintained in Procore or approved collaboration tools
Safety Leadership
- Champion and model Stueve's safety culture on every project
- Enforce compliance with Stueve Safety Program and client specific requirements
- Conduct safety audits and housekeeping reviews; provide constructive coaching
- Stop unsafe work and ensure corrective action is implemented
- Participate in and lead toolbox talks and safety meeting as appropriate
Quality Management
- Lead field adherence to the Stueve Quality Program
- Verify current drawings and specifications are in use
- Monitor material management plans and installation sequencing
- Identify and correct quality deviations proactively
- Support commissioning and closeout documentation processes
Risk & Compliance
- Confirm required insurance certificates, bonds, permits, and documentation are secured prior to mobilization
- Ensure regulatory compliance including OSHA, IBC, NFPA, and applicable codes
- Mitigate field risks through proactive planning and communication
Client & Professional Representation
- Maintain consistent, professional communication with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Build field credibility through active site presence
- Safeguard Stueve's reputation through sound judgement and follow-through
- Address challenges with solution oriented thinking
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, safety and execution
- Contribute to company-wide process refinement
- Support mentorship and development of field personnel
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership presence in field operations
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of building codes (IBC), OSHA standards, and NFPA regulations
- Familiarity with site work, concrete, structural systems, material handling systems, HVAC, and electrical coordination
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated project scheduling capability
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments
Education & Experience
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of construction project management or field leadership experience in industrial or commercial construction
Education
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related field or equivalent progressive field experience demonstrating project leadership capability
Preferred Certifications
- PMP (Project Management Professional)
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- Procore certification or experience
- Relevant equipment or safety certifications
Physical Requirments
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, including leading project coordination calls
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and access elevated work areas
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and navigate active construction sites
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round
Working Conditions
- Outdoor construction environments across varied climates
- Exposure to noise, heavy equipment, dust, wind, and changing terrain
- PPE is always required on site
