Position Summary
The Field Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day construction activities on assigned fertilizer and agribusiness projects.
This position coordinates field crews, subcontractors, equipment, materials, schedules, safety requirements, and project specifications while maintaining communication with project managers, engineers, vendors, customers, and company leadership.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on construction professional who can anticipate challenges, solve problems in the field, maintain productivity, and lead construction teams toward the successful completion of complex agricultural facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinate daily construction activities at fertilizer and agribusiness project sites.
- Provide leadership and direction to Stueve Construction field personnel, subcontractors, and other project participants.
- Ensure construction is completed according to approved drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and quality standards.
- Coordinate erection and installation of structural, mechanical, conveying, storage, blending, receiving, loadout, and related facility systems.
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, vendors, equipment suppliers, and customers throughout construction.
- Review construction drawings and specifications and identify potential field conflicts before they create delays.
- Develop and maintain short-term construction schedules and coordinate manpower, equipment, deliveries, and subcontractors.
- Monitor project progress and communicate schedule, manpower, material, or equipment concerns to project management.
- Maintain high standards for workmanship and construction quality.
- Conduct regular field inspections to confirm work complies with project requirements.
- Coordinate material deliveries and verify materials and equipment are available when required.
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress information, photographs, change documentation, and other required project records.
- Participate in project meetings and provide clear updates regarding construction progress.
- Assist with project startup, commissioning, punch-list completion, and final turnover to the customer.
- Help identify opportunities to improve construction methods, productivity, safety, scheduling, and overall project execution.
Safety Leadership
Safety is the highest priority at Stueve Construction.
The Field Construction Manager is expected to actively promote and enforce a strong safety culture on every project.
Responsibilities include conducting or coordinating safety meetings, identifying potential hazards, confirming proper use of personal protective equipment, maintaining safe work areas, and ensuring employees and subcontractors comply with company policies and applicable safety regulations.
This position requires a leader who understands that successful construction means completing the project efficiently while making sure everyone goes home safely at the end of the day.
Preferred Qualifications
- Five or more years of commercial, industrial, agricultural, or heavy construction experience.
- Previous experience as a Construction Superintendent, Field Manager, Project Superintendent, Construction Manager, or similar field leadership position.
- Experience managing multiple construction crews and subcontractors.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, structural systems, concrete, steel erection, mechanical equipment, and construction sequencing.
- Agricultural construction, fertilizer facility, grain facility, feed mill, bulk material handling, industrial storage, or process facility experience is highly desirable.
- Strong organizational and scheduling skills.
- Ability to identify construction problems and develop practical field solutions.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally with customers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and company leadership.
- Working knowledge of OSHA construction safety practices.
- Ability to use computers, tablets, project management software, email, and electronic construction drawings.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability and willingness to travel extensively to construction projects.
Knowledge of Fertilizer Facilities Is a Plus
Experience with any of the following is especially valuable:
- Dry fertilizer storage facilities
- Multi-product fertilizer storage bins
- Rodless fertilizer bin systems
- Fertilizer blending systems
- Conveyor and material-handling systems
- Truck receiving and loadout systems
- Liquid fertilizer storage facilities
- Agricultural chemical facilities
- Bulk storage terminals
- Rail receiving and loadout
- Concrete foundations and containment systems
- Structural steel and pre-engineered buildings
- Equipment installation and commissioning
Candidates with strong industrial construction experience who are new to the fertilizer industry are also encouraged to apply.

Physical and Travel Requirements
This is a field-based construction position.
Candidates must be able to work in active construction environments, climb ladders and stairs, navigate uneven terrain, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and safely access different areas of an active construction project.
Significant travel and extended stays near project locations may be required depending on project assignments.
