As temperatures begin to rise, We wanted to send out a reminder to stay aware of heat stress hazards while working outdoors and in warm environments.
Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly, especially during the first few hot days of the season when our bodies are still adjusting. Please take the following precautions throughout the workday:
- Drink plenty of water regularly, don’t wait until you feel thirsty
- Take breaks in shaded or cool areas when needed
- Wear light-colored, breathable clothing when possible
- Watch for signs of heat stress in yourself and your coworkers
- Report any symptoms immediately to your supervisor
Common signs of heat stress include:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Heavy sweating or lack of sweating
- Headache
- Muscle cramps
- Nausea
- Confusion or unusual fatigue
Remember to look out for one another. If someone appears to be struggling with the heat, speak up and get help right away.
